   I purchased these springs hoping they would actually work. They did, very well. With the push of a button, up goes the hatch!!!

   So taking off the bonnets, or struts, or piston hinge thing, proved to be a bit more difficult, then it looked in the video. Scratched up the end of mine. So not thrilled about that. Putting the springs on was easy and they work fantastic. Push the trunk release, and poof. It opens.
   But be aware..
   You have to practically slam the back hatch shut to close it and for it to register that it is "fully" closed.
   Makes me afraid I will end up damaging something, closing it so hard.
   Also.. mine came in blue. Not red like the video. Not that it matters, I'm guessing.
   
   Also. You will need someone to hold the hatch open or a good safe way to prop it open once you remove the "gas shock", bonnet, strut, whatever it is called.

   It does what it says it will do! The lift gate on my 4.8is was starting to get tired and after a half dozen head smacks it was definitely time to buy new shocks. I came across these a while back and thought I would try them since I had to change the shocks. They arrived within a reasonable shipping timeframe (< 1 week). I did not review any of the installation videos and I am not sure what more they would have shown me. That said, I would caution the general DIYer as this job will likely take between 90 and 180 seconds, depending on how far your mailbox is from your X5 :) The only downside for the product, it's a fair bit of money for a couple of hardware store springs... But I appreciate paying for the time it took to find the proper springs for the job. Thanks BavTek for the rather unique offering that solves a problem that only the finest e53 owners know they have.

   Literally do what the You tube videos shows and you will have no issues. It is really that easy. And do not cut Corners and think that the one gas shock will hold up the glass why you put the spring on the other side. I had to convince my 16 year old why his presence was necessary. Absolutely love this idea and how it works flawlessly. It’s a brilliant hack.

   Super easy to install. Works great. Was initially concerned the force required to close the hatch may be an issue, but I am perfectly satisfied after install. No issues at all.

   Excellent product and east to install as claimed. However one suggestion missing from your YouTube video. The rear hatch should be propped up to prevent it from closing and possibly breaking the window. I uses a 6 ft. ladder which worked perfectly. I am very happy with the results. Thank you!

   This modification is great and works as advertised. It takes some getting used to but overall it is really helpful.
